In Which I Fail to Crochet a Beret

I have been home sick for days, and crafts I can do while feverish are few and far between.

(21:19:27) twelvesidedfreak: [...] First I chose the yarn. It was grey, called “Oxford Grey” but really more of a nondescript heather grey, as greys go.
(21:20:07) twelvesidedfreak: The yarn was sitting next to my bed, but that was only of several reasons why it was the best yarn for the job.
(21:20:41) twelvesidedfreak: The crochet hook, also near my bed, was bright pink. This was not incongruous in the slightest.
(21:23:13) twelvesidedfreak: First, I had to find the end of the yarn. This was not a trivial task, but I succeeded at it without any help. I then proceeded to tie a knot in the yarn, with a loop that went through the crochet hook.
(21:23:27) twelvesidedfreak: Things did not go very well from this point.
(21:23:45) twelvesidedfreak: I stared blankly at the crochet hook, wondering what the next step to “crocheting” was
(21:23:58) twelvesidedfreak: where did crocheted things come from?
(21:24:09) twelvesidedfreak: eventually I asked my mother
(21:24:36) twelvesidedfreak: She attempted to demonstrate from across the room, which did not work as I was lying in bed incapacitated without glasses
(21:25:24) twelvesidedfreak: she then demonstrated closer to my eyes, which worked better
(21:25:52) twelvesidedfreak: From this, I learned how to start making something crocheted, and made several loops.
(21:26:12) twelvesidedfreak: I then was at a loss, for I could not see any more loops, even though I knew they must exist
(21:26:38) twelvesidedfreak: “Knitting is so much easier,” I thought, and resigned myself to a life with imperfect knowledge of the fabric arts
